Chris Saunders

Chris Saunders is a photographer originally from Johannesburg where he studied and began his carrier mostly in the Street Fashion, Editorial and Portraiture styles. After shooting a series on the Smarteez a street fashion collective from Cape Town for his blog in 2008, he was noticed by a more international clientele. At the moment, he is on a one year grant / Residency at Fabrica (Benettons Creative Research Facility) in Treviso, Italy at the moment. (Till January 2011)

: One of the members of the 'Real Actions' Pantsula crew shows me the area from the roof of his house in the township.: One the members of the dance crew shouts to a friend in the street and later tells me, 'you see that guy, he's a criminal, but your safe with us, so don't worry.': Pantsula dance comes from Tsotsi culture, (gangster culture) this member of the crew dresses in the classic tsotsi style. Brogues, Trousers and a button up.: One of the members takes me into his tin shack which is in the back of someone's garden in the township. He has telephone which is a light switch, amazing posters, a TV and a massive sound system. The image on the wall says, 'I wish a long life to my enemies so they can see all my success.': Three of the dancers from the 'real actions' crew sit during practice and pose for the camera. In a video before they all ran up the wall to get into position showing their athleticism and skill. They are dressed in the uniforms they wear when performing in public.
