The European Commission gives €1.55M for flood victims in Benin

The European Commission has allocated €1,550,000 for humanitarian assistance to flood victims in Benin. Around 100,000 people have been left homeless and thousands are in dire need of medical treatment, clean water and food assistance there, due to the unprecedented torrential rains over the last few months. Kristalina Georgieva, European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, said: "Many people in Benin have lost their homes and seen their livelihoods swept away by these floods.

This assistance is a sign we stand at their side” The new financing decision will enable the provision of food assistance, shelter, hygiene items and access to clean water. In addition, vouchers and cash will be provided as part of a "cash-for-work" programme.
