The African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) and EU Support Programme for the ACP Cinema and Audiovisual sector (ACP Films) is to provide €6.5M for 24 projects, following an announcement of the results of the Call for Proposals from 6 June 2008 to 5 September 2009. Funding in the form of grants will be provided by the 9th European Development Fund (EDF).
The ACP Films support programme is geared towards promoting the development and structuring of audiovisual, cinema and television industries in the ACP via the following funding ‘lots’: ACP cinema and audiovisual (television) production (€3.8M); promotion, distribution, dissemination and networking for the sector (€1.7M); and professional training for ACP projects (€1M).
12 production, 6 professional training and 6 distribution and promotion projects have been selected out of 130 applications from the ACP and EU.
In addition to boosting production and dissemination capacities in the sector, the programme aims to promote cultural identity and intercultural dialogue in the framework of the Cotonou Agreement, advancing and building on the activities of past ACP-EU programmes supporting cinema. Other key focuses include digitalisation, as well as the training of young professionals.
