Public consultation on a new Africa-Europe partnership
Hot on the heels of the Conference of Heads of States and Governments of the African Union (AU), held at the end of February in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the AU has launched a public consultation on a common strategy for a partnership with the EU. This should be adopted at the EU-Africa Summit in Lisbon, scheduled for the end of 2007. A public consultation on the strategy will “generate ideas and suggestions” on the content and form of this new partnership. At the same meeting, Ghanaian President John Kufuor was elected the AU’s Acting President for a one-year term.
